West Ham Limp Through Europa League Qualifier

A week on after new West Ham manager Slaven Bilić sat out of his team’s Europa League qualifier against Andorran side Lusitanos and already people have stopped writing about it. But that is despite the two teams playing the second leg of their qualifier in yesterday’s matches (Thursday 9 July).

West Ham were paired with a leading team from Andorra’s Primera Divisió (they finished second last year), but somehow they managed to toil through the second leg after winning the first 3-0.

Admittedly, they were playing away for the second match, but 1-0 really is not good enough for a team aspiring to climb the Premier League with their new manager.

Professionalism was clearly a theme for this qualifier (see Bilić above), with Diafra Sakho managing to get himself sent off after only 14 minutes. A goal from Elliot Lee on 21 minutes was enough to spare the Hammers’ blushes.

Newmarket July Festival Results – 9 July 2015

Day one of the Newmarket July Festival was bright and sunny. After watering, the turf was good to firm for Wednesday’s seven races. The following are the UK horse racing results and payouts from Newmarket.

Mr Singh delighted its backers with a 10/11 victory as favourite in the 14:10 Bahrain Trophy. But the bookies soon relaxed a little once Shalaa won as a 14/1 outsider in the 14:40 Arqana July Stakes.

An even longer shot then won when Big Orange claimed the 15:15 at 25/1, which was followed by a 12/1 win for Resonant in the 15:45 Unibet Handicap. Punters were again disappointed when Salvo won at 10/1 in the 16:20 Maiden Fillies Stakes.

Lumiere managed to redress the balance by winning as 6/5 favourite in the 16:55 Maiden Fillies Stakes. Tupi then claimed the 17:30 Sir Henry Cecil Stakes, leaving Jan Van Hoof to win as 9/4 favourite in the 18:00 Handicap.

Newmarket July Festival 2015 – Day Three

The final day of the Newmarket July Festival 2015 is packed with what will be seven enthralling races, but none will catch the eye quite like the 15:45 Darley July Cup.

Open to fillies three and older, two non-runners have already been declared, leaving a field of seven. Competition will be intense as the horses battle it out in the £500,000 race, for which the going is expected to be good to firm after two days of watering.

Today’s racing tips for the 15:45 Darley July Cup come from Sky Sports.  Notably, it is Brazen Beau that is the current favourite at 2/1, winner of five from 11 career races. That impressive form makes the three-year-old a top contender.

Outside of the favourite, Anthem Alexander offers considerable value at 10/1. The three-year-old has three wins, two thirds, and a second in seven of its career races.
