Aston Villa held Arsenal until 40 minutes, then conceding a Theo Walcott goal five minutes before half-time. A 0-0 draw had been the target of Villa manager Tim Sherwood, who had hoped to frustrate Arsenal by stopping them from scoring.
Five minutes on the other side of half-time, Alexis Sánchez struck a stunning goal that went in off the under-side of the crossbar. Arsenal had looked comfortable for much of the game, and this only became more obvious from 2-0 onwards.
Captain Per Mertesacker then added a third goal by using his shoulder to convert from a corner after 62 minutes. Substitute Olivier Giroud completed the scoring with a fourth goal that came two minutes into injury time.
Arsenal capped off their season with silverware in the football results from yesterday (Saturday 30 June), but next season their fans will want more than the FA Cup.
