Night one of the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals did not provide a single from open play. Incredibly, though, the second night yielded an astonishing return of eight goals across two matches in yesterday’s matches (Wednesday 15 April).
PSG had been expected to play well after putting Chelsea out in the previous round, but they disappointed greatly in a 3-1 home loss to Barcelona. The reigning French champions were trailing 3-0 after a Neymar opener and two goals from Luis Suárez. Barcelona slipped up slightly, however, when Jérémy Mathieu scored on own goal after 82 minutes.
The outcome of the second game was much more shocking. Porto managed to beat German champions Bayern Munich despite only holding 31% of possession. Ricardo Quaresma scored twice before Thiago Alcântara pulled a goal back for Bayern after 28 minutes. Jackson Martínez made it 3-1 to Porto after 65 minutes.
