There was relative calm in the UK horse racing results yesterday, which is why we are recapping a couple of key outcomes from the Punchestown Festival on Thursday (30 April). The cream of Irish horse racing came out in force for this annual event.
In terms of conditions, the going was yielding on the hurdle & chase course, while the going was good on the cross-country course.
The first main result to recap is the 17:30 Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle. Hurricane Fly had been hotly tipped as the 6/4 favourite to win the race, but it was the speedy Jezki, ridden by Mark Walsh, at 5/2 that won.
Any disappointment felt by jockey Ruby Walsh and trainer Willie Mullins from losing the 17:30 soon eased when they won the 18:40 Ryanair Novice Chase. The highly favoured Un De Sceaux made it possible by winning at extremely short odds of 1/10.
