Chile Beat Uruguay in Hot-tempered Affair

Chile have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2015 Copa America after defeating Uruguay 1-0 in a match that yielded two red cards for the losers and current holders. Uruguay have been subpar for the entire tournament, and that did not change on Wednesday (24 June).

Uruguay are a much worse team without Luis Suárez, who is still absent from international due to his ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at last summer’s World Cup. The loss of the world-class forward simply cannot be replaced by PSG’s Edinson Cavani.

In the football results from yesterday, this one especially stands out because of Uruguayan red cards for Edinson Cavani on 62 minutes and Jorge Fucile on 87 minutes.

Uruguay played with an extremely defensive approach, content to only create six chances compared to Chile’s 15. However, Chile eventually scored their winning goal through Mauricio Isla after 80 minutes. Chile’s reward is a place in the semi-finals.
